Halloween is just around the corner, which means allllll the fun costumes. If you’re like me, you love a good theme and having a partner helps make it happen! One of the easiest ways to figure out a fun couples Halloween costume is to start with broad category and then narrow in on your perfect costume. Today’s post will take you through broad categories, specific costumes, and even some links to help you put those costumes together. Let’s get started!
1) Disney Royalty
A classic choice that you really can’t go wrong with. One partner can be a princess while the other is a prince (or the princess’s trusted sidekick). Think Rapunzel & Pascal, Cinderella & Prince Charming, Ariel & Flounder or Prince Eric. Options upon options upon options!
If a prince is in your costume line-up, a white-button down shirt is an easy option or you can get fancy with this prince costume that has me shrieking it looks so good (and it’s on sale!).
With a princess, there are plenty of ways to use your own wardrobe to dress up. Find clothing pieces that coordinate with the princess’s classic look and you’ll be good to go. If you’re looking to go all out, here are costume links for Ariel, Mulan, Cinderella, Belle, and Snow White.
If you do decide to go the trusted sidekick route, you might need to think out of the box a little bit. Wear a yellow shirt with blue tape for “stripes” to be flounder, or grab a colored beanie to be one of Snow White’s seven dwarfs.
2) The Avengers
The Avengers are all the rage and have been all the rage for what has been years at point. Both you and your partner can pick your favorite Avenger and you’ll look great! You could also choose a specific movie and have one partner be the hero and the other the villain.
Similarly to Disney royalty, you can play it simple by merely coordinating colors or you can go hard with actual costumes.
I will say, if one of you decides to go as Black Widow I highly recommend getting this black faux leather jumpsuit. I got it a couple years ago and it has worked for multiple costumes – so a good investment!
Here are links for costumes for Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Panther. You can find other costumes on Amazon!
3) Harry Potter
As a Millennial, you know that I love Harry Potter. Hence why it absolutely had to be on this list. I honestly don’t even know how to direct you when it comes to couples costumes because the options are truly endless. Choose your favorite book and dress up as a couple of characters. Go as a couple professors. Students from different houses (or the same). Harry & Ginny. Ron & Hermione. So many options! Here are some great options for house robes and wands.
4) Decades-Inspired
Chances are you probably have everything you need for a decade-inspired costume inside your closet (or your mom’s 😉). I think the easiest way to prepare a costume inspired by a decade is to choose a decade and spend some time on Google or Pinterest figuring out how you want to do it. There are so many styles from each decade to choose from, many of which have come back!
Hopefully this post was helpful to at least get some gears turning in your head for some potential theme for you and your partner. I’m sure whatever you come up with will be wonderful!
